For Immediate Release

April 13, 2023

Karen Holmes was sentenced to life in prison, plus three years in the Washington County, Virginia, Circuit Court today. This was following her trial in August 2022, where a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder, robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The convictions resulted from the death of Alberta Susan Warren on Widener Valley Road in Washington County, Virginia, on January 16, 2020.

"I am pleased to get justice for the family of Sue Warren. This was a cold-blooded execution for which the defendant has shown no remorse. I am glad the judge took that into account by sentencing her to life in prison."

"This is the sixth murder case I have personally prosecuted since February 2022. All six have resulted in convictions and lengthy sentences. I can think of no better time than now to announce that I will seek re-election as Washington County's Commonwealth's Attorney in 2023. I am proud of the work that my team and I have done. It is an honor to represent the people of Washington County where I was born and raised. I ask for their support and their vote in the coming election," said Josh Cumbow, Commonwealth's Attorney.

I'm glad we have such a good prosecutor in Washington County and that he's running as a Dem.
